I have loved dolls, history, and the Victorian Era since I was little and can credit my grandmother for that. As a young girl she gave me a Godey’s Fashion print for August 1870 from my great, great Aunt Flossie. I was captivated by the dresses and became hooked. I just love to research everything and anything about the Victorian Era. I also love to design Victorian dolls. I hope you enjoy my Victorian Dolls, Victorian Traditions,The Victorian Era, and Me blog.

Augusta Black - So Fancy In Black!

“Augusta Black” is a13” Victorian faceless lady doll who is wearing an 1850 Ball Gown.

Augusta Lilac, Augusta Black, and Augusta Blue had been friends since they were babies and were so excited they could barely control themselves. You see, this was their year. Finally, they were debutantes and about to attend their debutante ball. They'd been dreaming of this for years and talking about the dress they wanted to wear.

The three best friends were very much alike in their taste in clothing and usually bought the same clothes - albeit in different colors. All three wanted a beautiful dress with long train. Well, maybe not so long that they couldn't dance, but long enough. They wanted lace and decorations and floral accents in their hair. And, most of all, as best friends they wanted their dresses to be alike, but not so alike that everyone would be able to guess. That was their private secret. But, different enough to reflect their own personalities.

Augusta Black might be studious and very intelligent but that doesn't stop her from liking to be the center of attention amongst her gentleman callers. And, there were plenty of gentleman callers. So, Augusta Black wanted her dress to be something that would definitely stand out in a crowd with aspects as different as night and day. Well, the contrast between black and white design of her dress fit her desires to a tee.

"Augusta Black" is a 13" free-standing Victorian doll who wants to be the belle of the ball. She is wearing her 1850 Ball Gown. She has very fancy black satin and white lace & satin trimmed dress with long puffed, gathered & ruffled sleeves and lace trim collar with silk floral accent. Ribbon and lace trim adorns the sides of her front and back bodice. She has a fancy black satin & white lace trimmed lined train. She has a lace trimmed sash wrapped around her waist with silk floral accent in the center back of her dress. Her lace shawl is wrapped around her shoulders and arms. Her slip is lace trimmed. Her long curly blonde hair is fastened on the top of her head in a bun and accented with silk floral. Her arms are wire-shaped and covered and she has pearl accents. She also has a painted wood head and covered round wood base. Her inner body is made from a dowel covered with fabric and eyelet lace.
